About the position

The Urban Planner position at our Los Angeles office focuses on leading sustainability practices and developing integrated, sustainable solutions for communities. The role emphasizes collaboration and professional growth within a diverse and inclusive environment, aiming to shape sustainable urban development through innovative planning and policy implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the growth of the sustainability practice using technical analyses to inform clients' sustainability approaches.
  • Develop and review sustainable land use and master plans, incorporating elements like renewable energy and waste management.
  • Critically review and interpret environmental regulations and advise clients on compliance and sustainability commitments.
  • Perform greenhouse gas inventory development and verification activities.
  • Assist clients in sustainability reporting activities aligned with various standards and frameworks.
  • Analyze sustainable site plans and propose strategies to reduce environmental impacts of buildings and transportation.
  • Evaluate the applicability and feasibility of industry-standard sustainability programs.
  • Participate in a network of sustainability practitioners across various services.
  • Present project proposals to community stakeholders and facilitate meetings with developers and officials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Environmental Science/Studies or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in developing sustainable master plans for communities.
  • Experience in creating policies for commercial and residential building development.
  • Proven track record in implementing sustainability programs and greenhouse gas accounting.
  • Experience in designing and implementing incentive programs for decarbonization and energy efficiency.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and public participation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with carbon strategy and corporate sustainability initiatives.
  • Familiarity with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
