About the position

The Upward Bound Summer Mentor position at Sul Ross State University involves mentoring and supervising students during evening sessions and weekend trips. Mentors will work approximately 19 hours per week, primarily during the evenings from 6 PM to 10 PM. The role includes ensuring students are prepared for their classes and group activities, leading and assisting with team activities, and maintaining student engagement during events. Mentors are also invited to participate in a week-long trip to Austin/San Antonio, although attendance is not mandatory and will not be compensated.

Responsibilities

  • Work 19 hours per week, mainly during evenings from 6 PM to 10 PM.
  • Ensure students are up for their classes and group activities.
  • Lead and assist with group/team activities during evening sessions.
  • Ensure all students are participating and paying attention during events.
  • Attend weekend trips with the campers, if available.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass TxDPS background check.
  • Must be available to attend any weekend trips with the campers.
