The student who fills this position will be assisting a Sociology faculty member, Dr. Brianna Turgeon, with a research project. The Sociology Department is seeking a University Student Assistant with interest in learning about the social science research process. The student assistant duties will involve transcribing (creating typed versions of audio recordings) research interviews conducted with Harry Potter fans and former fans to understand their identity and behavior change in the wake of J.K. Rowling's transphobic social media posts. Getting involved with the project also comes with future opportunities to work on the project for a combination of paid positions and academic credit during future semesters. Additionally, there will be opportunities to attend and present at conferences in the fall 2025 semester. This is a great experience for students interested in pursuing graduate school or applied work in the social sciences. Previous research knowledge/experience is an asset, but not required. A knowledge and interest (or former interest) in Harry Potter is preferred. Positions may be filled based on individual applicants' skills, qualifications, and departmental needs. Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.
