About the position

The Universal Banker at M&T Bank's Somers Main Street Branch is responsible for enhancing the customer experience through effective sales, service, and digital engagement for both Consumer and Business Banking customers. This role involves supporting daily branch operations as a Teller, managing customer appointments, and addressing customer needs while adhering to compliance and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Educate customers on Consumer and Business Banking solutions and make recommendations based on their needs.
  • Engage customers to encourage the use of digital banking capabilities.
  • Explain criteria for loan application decisions.
  • Complete servicing-related responsibilities for customer relationships and identify additional banking needs.
  • Follow the Bank's sales process to provide customer-focused advice.
  • Proactively reach out to customers to retain and expand banking relationships.
  • Manage lobby activities, greeting customers and addressing their banking needs.
  • Introduce banking partners for product solutions when necessary.
  • Assist with AML, BSA, and KYC processes, identifying and escalating fraud cases.
  • Resolve customer complaints and log them accurately.
  • Review and help resolve customer overdrafts.
  • Accurately complete customer transactions and related operational activities.
  • Adhere to compliance and operational risk controls as per company standards.
  • Promote a diverse environment that reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards and implement audit points as required.
  • Meet registration requirements under the Federal SAFE Act.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 1 year of retail sales, call center, customer service, or telesales experience.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse range of customers.
  • Ability to handle difficult customer conversations effectively.
  • Well-organized with proven time management skills.
  • Proven prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work under critical time constraints in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with internet user-level technology.
