About the position

The Unified Communications Technician/Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining unified communications systems, including VoIP, video conferencing, and messaging platforms. This role also provides systems administration support for server and network infrastructure, ensuring effective operation and secure performance of IT services in compliance with DOD standards.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot unified communications systems, including VoIP, video conferencing, and instant messaging platforms.
  • Monitor system performance and implement necessary updates or patches to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Provide support for end-users, including training and troubleshooting issues related to unified communications.
  • Administer server environments, including installation, configuration, and management of operating systems and applications.
  • Oversee network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Perform regular backups, recovery procedures, and system monitoring to ensure data integrity and system uptime.
  • Ensure all systems and communications platforms comply with DOD 8140 regulations and security standards.
  • Implement and maintain security policies and procedures to protect sensitive information and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and apply necessary patches or updates to address security vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, incident resolutions, and compliance status.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in unified communications and systems administration.
  • Proficiency in managing unified communications systems, including VoIP, video conferencing, and messaging platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of server and network administration, including Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience with security protocols, vulnerability assessments, and compliance with DOD 8140 requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate) preferred.
