About the position
The Underwriting Specialist for Small Commercial Underwriting at CNA is responsible for underwriting risks within the Small Commercial Business Unit, focusing on segments such as Connect (BOP), Workers Compensation, Auto, and Umbrella. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, portfolio management, and sales relationship development to ensure profitable business operations and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite risks in the Small Commercial Business Unit under technical direction.
- Review applications and financial requirements to determine risk acceptability according to CNA's guidelines.
- Price risks based on underwriting analysis and understanding of pricing components and rating methodology.
- Utilize underwriting tools and knowledge to ensure compliance with guidelines.
- Prepare and analyze information on adverse underwriting decisions and pricing to drive results.
- Manage assigned portfolio to achieve gross written premium and profitability goals.
- Develop strong agency relationships to build pipeline and drive performance.
- Identify cross-sell opportunities and collaborate with other underwriters.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Typically, a minimum of three to five years of underwriting experience.
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting and P&C insurance industry theories and practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-paced environment.
