About the position

The Traveling Summer Camp Director at Camp Galileo is responsible for overseeing and managing summer day camp operations across various locations in the San Gabriel Valley and East LA. This part-time role involves providing coverage for Camp Directors and Assistant Camp Directors, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for K-8 campers. The position requires strong leadership skills, a passion for innovative education, and the ability to adapt to different camp settings while fostering a culture of creativity and fun.

Responsibilities

• Provide coverage for Camp Directors and Assistant Camp Directors in their absence, ensuring smooth camp operations.
• Manage and mentor camp staff, overseeing day-to-day camp activities and camper safety.
• Create a welcoming and joyful environment that embodies the mission of Camp Galileo.
• Engage in training and preparation activities prior to the camp season, including live training and weekly check-ins with management.
• Build strong relationships with campers and their families, ensuring effective communication and support.
• Handle compliance and employee relations matters in partnership with HR, including onboarding and safety checks.

Requirements

• 3+ years of work experience in K-8 education or relevant collegiate coursework and work experience.
• 1+ year of demonstrated management experience with the ability to coach a team.
• Valid CPR/First Aid certification or ability to become certified prior to the start of camp.
• Ability to work part-time remotely starting in February 2025 and full-time on-site starting in June 2025.
• Flexibility to travel to multiple camp locations and adapt to changing needs.
