Full time hours with rotating shifts; The traveling chef will be traveling as needed amongst our 24 communities located in the Northeast, providing support, training, and as needed coverage. Mileage is compensated.

Requirements

  • Certification in “Safe Serve” mandatory
  • Prior attendance at seminars/workshops to develop skills in management and food services
  • Previous experience cooking in a similar environment
  • Ability to follow directions and work well under pressure and at a constant pace to ensure that meals are ready for designated time
  • Desire to serve seniors and a dedication to improving their quality of life
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding and speaking English
  • Comfortable with computer technology. Ability to become proficient in systems SLR uses: Google Apps for Work (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and/or Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Team player; demonstrated ability to work with a diverse workforce; leadership skills with the ability to promote a culture of teamwork, cooperation, enthusiasm and customer service
  • Physical ability and endurance to move about the kitchen, service kitchen and dining room as required in the performance of job responsibilities
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must have reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Culinary Arts or Hotel/Restaurant Service preferred
  • Food Service Sanitation course sponsored by the National Education Foundation/National Restaurant Association preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supporting SLR communities, as assigned, with the entire operation of the culinary department, including the training and supervision of all department associates
  • Helping maintain inventory of food, supplies and equipment
  • Helping with managing the budget
  • Preparing and serving food/refreshments
  • Overseeing set-up for all meals and special events
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and smooth functioning of the kitchen and dining room to provide a gracious dining experience for residents
  • Supporting with training and serving as a resource to communities on an as needed basis.
