About the position
The Transporter position at ProMedica involves the safe and efficient transportation of patients, clinical materials, and equipment within the hospital and professional office building. This role is essential for maintaining patient safety and comfort during transport, as well as ensuring that all equipment is in proper working order. The transporter must communicate effectively with nursing staff and other caregivers to ensure a seamless hand-off of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Transports, assists in lifting, turning and transferring patients from beds to applicable transportation equipment using appropriate lifting techniques with regard to the patient's condition and the equipment.
- Cleans and assures the proper working order of transportation equipment after each use, reporting defects immediately.
- Monitors the patient's general conditions during transport and assures their safety, maintaining operation of any external support to patients, such as oxygen delivery devices and IVs.
- Monitors and maintains portable oxygen tank supplies throughout the hospital and delivers clinical equipment as needed.
- Provides timely service and communicates all delays in transport.
- Collects items for reprocessing from departments and transports them to appropriate reprocessing locations.
- Is accountable for communication of the patient's condition at the time of hand-off to another caregiver.
- Assures the identification of the patient by using at least two identifiers.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent education.
- Successful completion of training in equipment usage, clinical aspects, customer service, patient mobility, and infection control.
- Satisfactory performance of appropriate competencies.
- Obtain and maintain Health Care Provider (HCP) certification.
