About The Position

Chesterfield Employment Services (CES) is seeking a Transportation Assistant to provide administrative and technical support to our transit operations. This role involves arranging transportation services to and from work for individuals supported by employment services. The position offers a dynamic work environment where each day presents different challenges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of experience in driving a transit vehicle or in customer service or administrative support work in a public transit environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and laws pertaining to vehicle operations.
  • Working knowledge of defensive driving techniques.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair practices.
  • Ability to operate a computerized transportation routing system.
  • Ability to safely operate a passenger van.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
  • Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview.
  • Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Outlook preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules transportation for 180+ individuals to and from employment sites.
  • Assists in conducting and maintaining new driver and in-service training; schedules required training.
  • Answers phones, receives information from customers and disseminates information into the scheduling software.
  • Prepares reports on activities and operations related to vehicle maintenance, trip activity, and driver training.
  • Assists in performing vehicle inspections for needed repairs, maintenance and cleaning.
  • Responds to problems in the field such as equipment failures and vehicle accidents.
  • Drives multi-passenger vehicles as needed.
  • Performs other work as required.
