About the position

The Transitional Pathways Teacher is responsible for providing special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This role involves developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons and instructional materials tailored to student ability levels. The teacher will work in various capacities including general education, self-contained, team, departmental, co-teach, or itinerant as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with learners, parents, and staff to develop an IEP through the ARD Committee process for each learner assigned.
  • Conduct assessments of learner needs related to the grade level curriculum and use the results to plan instructional activities.
  • Participate in ARD/IEP Committee meetings regularly.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of learners' needs.
  • Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs for assigned learners.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom educators to provide accommodations and modifications to general education curricula.
  • Design and implement a plan to develop learners' self-advocacy skills.
  • Create conducive learning spaces for the physical, social, and emotional development of learners.
  • Manage learner behavior in accordance with the CISD Classroom Management Framework and IEP.
  • Intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials.
  • Support learners in their educational, personal, and social growth.
  • Engage in a professional learning community to ensure success of all learners.
  • Collaborate with campus Problem Solving Team regarding intervention strategies.
  • Ensure learners have access to the full grade level curriculum.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet learners' needs.
  • Collect and utilize ongoing data/assessments of learner achievement.
  • Consult district and community resources regarding learners' needs.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents and educators.
  • Set professional goals and participate in professional learning experiences.
  • Serve as case-manager for assigned learners eligible for special education.

Requirements

  • Texas Certified - Multiple content areas preferred.
  • Texas Special Education Teacher Certification.
  • Texas ESL Supplemental Certification.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required.
  • Knowledge of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process.
  • Knowledge of the special education process Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
  • Ability to work with children with varied disabilities.
  • Ability to understand and use data.
  • Growth mindset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
