About the position

The Chief of the National Guard Bureau, IAW Public Law 112.239, Sec 513, established a program to provide professionals (to be known as Transition Assistance Advisors (TAAs) in each State, the District of Columbia, and any territory of the United States to serve as points of contact to assist eligible members of the Reserve Components, their families and Veterans in accessing benefits and healthcare furnished under the laws administered by the Secretary of Defense and benefits and health care furnished under the laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The contractor shall ensure Reserve Component Transition Assistance Advisor services and activities are in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 1332.35, Directive-Type Memorandum 12-007, in accordance with Public Law (P.L.) 112-239 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2013, Sec 513; Title X, United States Code, Chapter 58, sub-sections 1142, 1143, 1144(a), 1144(b), and 1148, as well as Department of Defense (DOD) Directive 1332.36, and all Reserve Component Transition related service publications and sites listed in section 2 of the PWS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide TAA services to all eligible Reserve Component Members, their family members and Veterans.
  • Provide information, coordination, and assistance to transitioning service members in accessing various Reserve Component benefits.
  • Perform outreach services including social media and outreach marketing methods to provide information and assistance.
  • Coordinate with appropriate Veterans Affairs, TRICARE, Veteran Service Organizations, and other resources.
  • Participate in the mobilization and demobilization process to brief/advise eligible Reserve Component Members and their family members and Veterans.
  • Research and resolve issues associated with transition for Reserve Component members and their family members.
  • Coordinate with Veterans Affairs centers to assist law enforcement and other agencies with awareness concerning Reserve Component service members and Veterans.
  • Provide Reserve Component leadership personnel with the operation of reintegration programs for members returning from deployment.
  • Coordinate with Family Support Specialists and Employer Support Groups regarding entitlements available through Department of Veterans Affairs.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in social services, human resources or related field, or three years of equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of military protocols.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of Transition Assistance Program activities is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Prior military experience is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, understanding of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain Tier 1 clearance.
  • Must be able to travel, 75%-90% throughout the CONUS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Department of Veterans Affairs programs and policies, specifically Veterans Health Administration.
  • Experience with TRICARE programs and policies.
  • Familiarity with DoD Transition Assistance Program (DoDTAP) for Managers and Counselors web application.
