About the position

The Transit Operations Division Supervisor at Metro is responsible for overseeing daily street service operations and addressing customer service issues within designated service sectors or the Central Business District. This role involves supervising a team of operators, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards, and providing real-time support and guidance to enhance service delivery and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, and motivate operators, providing real-time assistance during service operations.
  • Monitor and correct operators on proper work procedures, safety, customer service, and company policies.
  • Perform Time Point Checks and Ride Checks, completing reports to ensure timely operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate operational issues using Transit Master and coordinate with the Radio Communications Center (RCC).
  • Initiate commendations and disciplinary actions for bus operators as necessary.
  • Manage accident scenes and conduct investigations in accordance with Authority policy.
  • Supervise drug and alcohol testing for operators, making reasonable suspicion determinations when required.
  • Provide customer service by addressing customer experiences and resolving disputes between customers and operators.
  • Perform general maintenance on coaches, including fare box repairs and adjustments to mirrors and wiper blades.
  • Check and secure detours for transit operations, ensuring usability and proper signage.
  • Respond to calls from RCC and monitor cameras and radio communications during operations.
  • Facilitate the development of strategies to meet organizational performance goals and recognize employee achievements.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience as a coach operator preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of public transportation systems is preferred.
  • Class B CDL with passenger and airbrake endorsements required.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and email, with the ability to navigate Windows-based systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Trapeze software is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of digital cameras and radios.
  • Familiarity with on-time performance metrics and the Metro system and routes.
