About the position

The position involves supervising all phases of tramway maintenance activities and performing journeyman level electrical and mechanical work under the direction of the Director of Tram Ops & Facilities Manager. The role is critical for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of tramway facilities, providing leadership to maintenance staff, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Determine whether to proceed with tramway operation based on internal and external factors.
  • Monitor factors affecting the safe and efficient operation of tramway cars and the control center.
  • Ensure the lift is operational for public transport during scheduled hours and that all required maintenance is performed.
  • Supervise maintenance and repair work performed on the lift by subordinates and contractors.
  • Make staff assignments and schedule work considering operational needs and resource availability.
  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program and schedule for tramway structures and systems.
  • Manage and record training of staff in standby operations and emergency evacuations.
  • Perform journey level electrical and/or mechanical work, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Authorize closure of tramway operations due to adverse conditions and deny access to unsafe individuals.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Director of Tram Ops & Facilities Manager during absences.
  • Emphasize the importance of customer service and monitor staff performance in this area.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in aerial tramway and/or ski lift operations and maintenance, including two years with electrical controls, hydraulics, and wire-rope.
  • One year of lead/supervisory experience, including scheduling and training subordinates.
  • Current CPR/AED and first aid certificates.
  • Current Rope access and/or Fall Protection certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ten years of experience in aerial tramway and/or ski lifts, gondola operations, including four years with electrical controls, hydraulics, and wire rope.
  • Five years of lead/supervisory maintenance experience, including scheduling and training subordinates.
