About The Position

The Trades Specialist position is responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings across multiple campuses. This role involves specific systems maintenance and requires technical knowledge to keep college buildings functioning at a high level.

Requirements

  • GED or High School diploma or equivalent, plus three (3) years experience in the structural trades appropriate to the work assignment (plumbing) or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • A pre-employment post-offer physical evaluation will be required of the selected candidate.
  • Safety Certifications for the following equipment (or ability to become certified within twelve (12) months of hire): Forklift, Skid loader, and Manlift.
  • This position requires the use of a company vehicle for business travel.
  • The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, alter, and repair various types and ages of plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Determine methodology to complete assigned tasks.
  • Read, interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Estimate materials needed to complete the assigned task.
  • Order materials to complete the assigned task.
  • Roof drainage systems.
  • Low-voltage components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Monitor and replace all bottle filters.
  • Install, alter, maintain, and repair HVAC components such as modulines, filters, thermostats, etc.
  • Read and interpret directions, diagrams, or specifications.
  • Estimate materials needed to complete the assigned task.
  • Perform preventative maintenance - change filters, clean equipment.
  • Backflow preventive maintenance.
  • Clean out, maintenance, and proper operation of sand trap systems.
  • Advise on the proper disposal of waste material and systems.
  • Eye wash stations, lab hoods, and main drain clean-outs.
  • Proper technique in removing wall systems to access valves, pipes, etc.
  • Read, interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Estimate materials needed to complete the assigned task.
  • Order materials to complete the assigned task.
  • Maintain entryways and walkways up to 20’ free from snow and ice by means of specialized equipment or by hand.
  • Distribute sand, ice melt, or equivalent by means of specialized equipment or by hand.
  • Inspect areas for snow or ice accumulations and address potential safety hazards.
