About the position
The Trades Generalist position at Rockland Lake Garage involves performing journey-level repairs on motor and heavy equipment, including welding and metal fabrication. The role requires a strong understanding of various trades, the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, and the capacity to train others. This full-time, permanent position is essential for maintaining the operational efficiency of the garage's equipment and vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Perform journey-level motor and heavy equipment repair, including welding as a secondary skill.
- Replace rusted or damaged body parts.
- Conduct metal fabrication, plasma cutting, and mechanical repairs, including engine and drive line repairs, brake and front end work, electronic diagnosis, and emission repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, as well as engine and component repair of construction equipment.
- Lay out work and diagnose problems; read and interpret plans, diagrams, and specifications.
- Perform supervisory duties, troubleshoot problems, and ensure that instructions have been followed and the quality of work is satisfactory.
- Perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
Requirements
- Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be accepted.
- Possession of a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
