About the position

The Natural Resources Specialist I-II-III-IV (Conservation Ecologist) position at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department focuses on managing and conserving the natural and cultural resources of Texas. The role involves evaluating potential project impacts on natural resources, conducting site visits, performing technical data collection, and participating in environmental studies. The specialist will represent the department in various meetings and assist in developing environmental review procedures for recreational grant programs.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate potential project impacts to natural resources on multiple scales.
  • Conduct site visits and perform technical data collection, evaluations, and site surveys.
  • Analyze data, coordinate comments, and prepare recommendations for proposed developments in waters and wetlands.
  • Participate in planning and monitoring of environmental studies for interagency efforts.
  • Develop and maintain TPWD databases.
  • Represent TPWD in meetings with project sponsors and various agencies.
  • Review and develop comments on proposed grants for recreational facilities and hazard mitigation.
  • Assist in developing environmental and review procedures for recreational grant programs.
  • Participate in the Department's regulatory program over disturbance of State water bodies.
  • Coordinate information for public dissemination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Natural Resource, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, Wetlands Science or a directly related field.
  • For NRS II: Two years of relevant experience.
  • For NRS III: Six years of relevant experience.
  • For NRS IV: Ten years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid class 'C' Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience in habitat and natural resource impact assessment.
