About The Position

This role involves wearing all required safety equipment and ensuring a safe work environment. The technician will perform preventative maintenance, clean and organize the work area according to 6S principles, and read blueprints or follow verbal/written instructions. Responsibilities include planning machine shop operations, heat-treating and welding parts, inspecting work using precision tools, and performing hand operations for producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. The technician will also fit, assemble, set up, run, and test dies, troubleshoot die issues, and repair tooling. Collaboration with other toolroom personnel and press operators is expected, along with assisting with troubleshooting during production runs. The role requires a high degree of precision, control, muscular control, and a delicate touch, as well as a high degree of attention and care to prevent injury. Troubleshooting skills, the ability to pull and set up tooling, and process hourly/daily paperwork are also necessary. In-press preventative maintenance will be performed as scheduled, along with other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required
  • High degree of attention and care required, preventing injury to self and others when operating machine tools
  • Possess good troubleshooting skills
  • Able to pull and set-up tooling
  • Must have valid forklift operator’s license (or be willing to be trained before starting job assignment)

Responsibilities

  • Wear all required safety equipment and ensure area and environment is safe
  • Perform preventative maintenance as required
  • Clean and organize area, keep area free of clutter and safety hazards – 6S
  • Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted
  • Plan the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool feeds and speeds
  • Heat-treat and weld parts as required
  • Determine specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during and after machining
  • Perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Use hand tools of the trade
  • Fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Set up, run off and test dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same
  • Tear down, repair and reassemble tooling on the bench or in the press as required
  • Assist other tool room personnel with troubleshooting skills or ideas
  • Assist Press Operators with troubleshooting tooling during production runs
  • Process hourly/daily paperwork as required
  • Perform in-press P.M.’s as scheduled
