About the position

The Toddler and Preschool Instructional Assistant at Cuesta College will work under the supervision of the Director of the Children's Center to plan, implement, and supervise developmentally appropriate activities for toddlers and preschoolers. This role involves modeling respectful interactions, ensuring compliance with state licensing requirements, and supporting student learning outcomes in an early childhood education laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the work of instructional aides and assist laboratory students in their assignments.
  • Communicate positively and effectively with children, parents, other staff members, and Early Childhood Education laboratory students.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and follow universal health precautions.
  • Maintain confidential records on children's progress and development, immunizations, and other material required by law.
  • Plan, provide, and evaluate indoor and outdoor environments, activities, and routines which meet the needs of all children.
  • Supervise and direct interaction with children in a positive manner.
  • Develop and implement conflict management and problem-solving strategies to be used with children.
  • Plan, purchase, prepare, and serve nutritionally appropriate snacks.
  • Represent the center positively to the community.
  • Demonstrate awareness of cultural differences in early childhood education and parenting practices, and work to resolve these differences in ways that are acceptable to parents and staff.
  • Hold conferences with parents regarding their child's development.
  • Understand that sensitive observation and recording will result in an environment supportive of an emerging curriculum that adapts to the changing needs of children.
  • Maintain current inventory of classroom supplies.
  • Establish priorities, organize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time to effectively meet the goals of the program.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Three (3) semester units in Infant Toddler Caregiving from an accredited college or university.
  • Possess or be eligible for a current California Child Development Permit at Teacher level or above.
  • One year experience working in an early childhood program.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification; Current TB clearance; Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Experience working in a college ECE laboratory school; Two years' experience working in an early childhood program.
