About the position

The Specialized Programs Teacher Assistant III at Bridger Middle School supports licensed teachers in delivering educational and therapy programs for students with special needs. This role involves assisting with instructional tasks, maintaining student records, and providing personal care to students, ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students, particularly those with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists professional with self-contained program students in all phases of educational and therapy programs.
  • Performs tasks related to the instructional program, including taking attendance, monitoring student work groups, and distributing materials.
  • Collects and corrects students' papers, scores and records grades, and maintains work folders.
  • Reads to students and drills them in subject matter presented by the teacher/professional.
  • Assists with student concerns and progress reports.
  • Provides personal care assistance to students as needed.
  • Maintains discipline and encourages acceptable behavior among students.
  • Supervises playground activities to ensure student safety.
  • Assists students in using prosthetic devices when necessary.
  • Keeps records and administers medication to students, per parent authorization.
  • Assists in loading/unloading students transported by bus.
  • Prepares, distributes, orders, and administers snacks/special lunches for students.
  • Administers CPR/AED as necessary.
  • Completes standard forms as required by the Clark County School District.
  • Conforms to safety standards as prescribed.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent (GED, foreign equivalency, etc.).
  • Minimum of 48 college credits from an accredited institution or a passing score on the ETS ParaPro assessment.
  • Experience working with children.
  • A valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.
  • Current CPR/AED certificate from a recognized organization, maintained for the duration of the assignment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Signing abilities for the hearing-impaired program.
  • One year of experience working with special education children.
