About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager of Clinical Education, the Tissue Clinical Field Trainer is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and evaluation of all Tissue Recovery department-based onboarding, clinical orientation, competency validation, and ongoing skills development. This role serves as the primary field-based clinical trainer, providing hands-on instruction, real-time coaching, performance evaluation, and process confirmation during case activity. The Clinical Field Trainer partners closely with Tissue Recovery leadership and the Education team to ensure training standardization, regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and readiness for independent practice. Utilizing team-specific data, quality indicators, and performance metrics, the Field Trainer identifies training gaps, supports remediation planning, and contributes to process improvement initiatives that strengthen clinical performance and operational consistency across the department. Position requires schedule flexibility to include day, night and weekend work shifts, as well as travel to Infinite Legacy regional offices, service area donor hospitals and Medical Examiner offices to facilitate training processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing, surgical technology, perioperative or health sciences related field; or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • 3 years of clinical experience in surgical services, tissue recovery, or other procedural healthcare environment, with demonstrated technical proficiency.
  • 2 years of formal preceptor, educator, or competency validation experience, including direct observation, clinical skills evaluation, and documented performance feedback.
  • Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) certification preferred at hire; required within twelve (12) months of assuming role and must be maintained thereafter.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to function independently, establish priorities, and manage multiple concurrent responsibilities in a dynamic clinical environment.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge of tissue recovery practices, sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and donor case processes.
  • Strong instructional and facilitation skills, including the ability to teach complex clinical concepts, demonstrate technical procedures, and adapt learning strategies to varied experience levels.
  • Demonstrated competency in conducting objective clinical assessments, competency validations, and performance evaluations.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards governing organ and tissue donation and recovery practices.
  • Experience facilitating simulation-based learning and structured debriefings focused on clinical skill development, communication, and team performance.
  • Ability to analyze training data, performance metrics, and quality indicators to identify skill gaps and implement targeted development plans.
  • Skilled in providing timely, constructive feedback and navigating performance-based conversations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document training outcomes clearly and maintain audit-ready records.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee performance and sensitive case information.
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships with departmental leadership, Education, Quality, and operational teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the service area to support field-based training activities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Manager of Clinical Education, Tissue Training Specialist and Tissue Recovery Team leadership in all aspects of comprehensive training for Tissue Recovery job roles to include the initial training period, process confirmations, regular competency evaluations, and ongoing education.
  • Facilitates a broad range of field training experiences with team members during initial training period, following established training checklists and clinical SOPs and protocols in a supportive and positive learning environment to encourage knowledge retention and skill development.
  • Develops and deploys curriculum for Tissue Recovery training and education programs with a focus on clinical field experiences, competencies and ongoing education.
  • Facilitate simulation programs targeted for Tissue Recovery Team members, to include developing clinical case scenarios, leading training sessions, providing debriefing venue to review progress towards training goals and offering constructive feedback.
  • Collaborates in all aspects of the evaluation and documentation of team member training, to include progress check-ins, competency assessments, focused individual training needs, as well as completing all associated documentation.
  • Collaborates with Managers of Education and Tissue Recovery leadership in determining readiness for independent practice, identifying the need for additional training, and escalating performance concerns when clinical competency or regulatory compliance standards are not met.
  • Monitors the performance of new employees during their initial training period, to assess any gaps in training retention or behavior and provide timely feedback to Education, Tissue Recovery and Human Resources leadership, as indicated.
  • Serves as a clinical subject matter expert (SME), with special focus on Tissue Recovery related clinical processes.
  • Participates in a work schedule that prioritizes field experiences, case activity sign-offs, and process confirmation activities, based on training needs of team members.
  • Collaborates with Education Team in facilitating workshops, in-services, external tissue partner activities and training modules related to all tissue recovery practices and SOPs.
  • Participates in tracking, analysis and reporting of data elements associated with Tissue Recovery training metrics. In conjunction with the Vice President of External Affairs and Education and other leadership, participates in on-going data analysis to target specific areas for improvement.
  • Analyzes training needs assessments using a variety of sources, such as employee feedback, training metrics, non-conformances, process confirmation, and testing tools in support of identifying gaps in training, skills, and performance.
  • Participates in ongoing initiatives with assigned personnel to track and measure competency for new and tenured team members via the use of meaningful metrics, innovative learning modalities, process confirmation, and ongoing competency maintenance.
