About the position
The City of Aurora is seeking a part-time staff member to assist in the implementation and facilitation of therapeutic recreation programs for individuals of all ages and varying abilities. This role is essential in providing a safe and supportive environment for participants, ensuring they have access to enriching recreational activities. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, as programs may occur during the day, evening, and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation and facilitation of therapeutic recreation programs for individuals of all ages and varying abilities.
- Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, therapists, or guardians, providing appropriate answers and follow-up information as necessary.
- Provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants.
- Make adaptations to accommodate the ability level of all participants.
- Complete documentation steps of the therapeutic recreation process as required.
- Support participants in need of third-party transportation services to ensure safe arrival and departure from programs.
- Conduct operation and before/after use inspections of a 13 passenger bus for weekly excursions and overnight trips; operate wheelchair lift as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma.
- At least 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in recreation programs or similar activities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to complete all requirements related to operating a City of Aurora vehicle.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid within 6 months of hire, must be kept current.
Nice-to-haves
- College education in Therapeutic Recreation, education, human services, or a related field.
- Certifications similar or related to Water Safety Instructor.
