About the position

The Bio-Medical Equipment Technician is responsible for providing planned maintenance, safety testing, repairs, calibration, installation, and emergency service for various medical equipment within the assigned service area. This role ensures that diagnostic, therapeutic, and support medical equipment operates safely and effectively, adhering to regulatory standards and manufacturer guidelines. The technician collaborates with clinical staff to resolve operational issues and promotes teamwork while maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned maintenance procedures on various types of clinical equipment.
  • Conduct corrective maintenance procedures, diagnosing problems using various scientific principles.
  • Notify equipment users and management of repair status and delays.
  • Interact with clinical staff to resolve operational problems and minimize interference with hospital departments.
  • Determine the need for replacement parts and submit parts requests as necessary.
  • Complete maintenance work order documentation per policy.
  • Promote teamwork and participate in group decision-making processes.
  • Order parts and supplies for emergency service or repair of medical equipment as needed.
  • Provide on-call service coverage after normal business hours on a rotating basis.
  • Assist and train junior Bio-Medical Equipment Technicians as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associates of Applied Sciences Degree in medical electronics or equivalent military training required.
  • Five or more years of experience performing maintenance on medical devices and clinical equipment.
  • Specialized training in areas such as anesthesia machines, sterilizers, and ultrasound equipment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and test equipment specific to the field.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and The Joint Commission standards and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • CBET or CLET certification preferred.
  • Experience with complex test equipment and ability to analyze and interpret information from clinical staff.
