About the position

We are looking for a passionate Textile Engineer to join our team. As a critical member of our Textiles team (part of our Product team) and a cross-functional partner to our Hardware and Operations teams, your primary responsibilities will be to test, operate and develop fabrics on our first-of-its-kind 3D weaving machinery. We're looking for someone with extensive experience in fabric development, someone familiar with industrial textile production, and someone excited about the risks and rewards of joining a Series B-funded startup.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, testing, and commercialization of our 3D weaving technology
  • Operate revolutionary robotic loom to create apparel products and fabric swatches
  • Contribute to continuously improving our hardware and software to optimize woven outputs
  • Identify, root-cause and resolve issues related to weaving reliability and fabric quality
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute production runs
  • Work with hardware engineering team to ideate and develop manufacturing technology
  • Interface with Hardware and Product teams to understand testing needs, develop test plans, perform tests, and analyze and communicate results
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians on integration and testing of new features
  • Create and maintain internal documentation, spec sheets and SOPs

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, Fiber Science, Materials Science, or related fields
  • Extensive experience with fabric development
  • Experience managing production runs or fabric manufacturing
  • Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working with a team of engineers and technicians
  • Experience and comfort working with textile machinery and robotics
  • Energized by new ideas in apparel and product manufacturing
  • Able to work full time on-site in Emeryville

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with weaving in the industrial setting, including yarn prep and woven draft patterning
  • Experience sourcing for apparel and textile manufacturing, especially yarn
  • Knowledge of fiber and polymer science
  • Knowledge of fabric and garment finishing methods
  • Statistical and data analysis knowledge and experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working on fast-paced early stage R&D projects
  • Automation and robotics experience
  • Familiarity with hardware engineering design and implementation practices
  • Familiarity with basic programming concepts and patience working with beta stage software
  • Experience testing and debugging mechanical or automated systems
