About the position

TransitAmerica Services is currently seeking Traction Electrification Systems (TES) Superintendents in Menlo Park, CA to join our team. The electrified territory has approximately 50 miles of auto tension Overhead Contact System (OCS) for the two-track railroad from San Francisco to San Jose with ten Traction Power Facilities (TPF) throughout the system. The pay range for this position is $140,000 - $165,000.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure employee and the public's safety while on the railroad property
  • Comply with all State and Federal regulations, safety and railroad policies, rules, and procedures
  • Maintain training programs and schedules
  • Organize and provide directive for TES Isolation and Restoration and provide leadership within the Centralized Control Facility (CCF)
  • Daily management of TES Maintenance Crews including but not limited to: Pre and Post shift briefings, Assign daily tasks to crews through work orders, Dispatching crews as needed throughout the shift, Coordinate equipment and special tooling/ test equipment between TES Crews, On-site response to emergency situations, Communicate Power Isolation and Restoration request between TES Crews, other TASI Disciplines, contractors, and Power Control Supervisors, Maintain TES crew time sheets, Ensure TES Crews complete all required paperwork, Inspect TES Crew operations for Safety and Quality compliance, Participate in providing shift change updates between Power Control Supervisors, Respond to emergency and routine events, Direct personnel to maximize system reliability including the field supervision, Enforce safety rules and work practices, Create and issue Electrical Clearances, Provide direction to Power Control Supervisors for remote control of high voltage electrical equipment, Perform critical thinking while under operational pressure, Create reports and logs for system events and incidents, Ensure timely train operations to achieve service goals and ensure high quality customer service, Monitor conditions affecting train movements and apply corrective actions, Undertake appropriate actions to sustain alternate service in the case of service disruptions, Prepare, present, and distribute to supervisors a clear and detailed daily record of events, Formulate emergency plans consistent with department goals, standard operating procedures, and special instructions, Coordinate the implementation of emergency plans within the Operations Department and with other departments and/or agencies in accordance with the appropriate protocol, Work to sustain interdepartmental cooperation and response toward the goal of resuming scheduled service during service interruption, Identify patterns of service failures for investigation and correction, Ensure effective communication with the incident commander on site during disruptions, Support and model professional standards in all communications, Develop a team environment, among CCF personnel, other departments, and contractors, Perform investigations, developing summaries and root cause analysis of TES issue, Perform investigations, developing summaries and root cause analysis for TES accidents, injuries, and near misses, Mentoring, training, and evaluations of TES O&M field personnel

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in education, communications or another relative field and 3 years of experience
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, 5 years of related experience conducting training in the following settings may be considered: transit agency, Class 1 Railroad, large manufacturing environment, construction industry, military
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
