About the position
The Terminal Operator at Ash Grove Cement is responsible for loading and unloading cement from trucks and railcars, ensuring proper procedures are followed to maintain safety and quality. This role involves operating various equipment, maintaining terminal operations, and providing customer service, all under the supervision of the Terminal Manager.
Responsibilities
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Assure proper cement types are loaded into bulk trucks.
- Operate pneumatic and mechanical equipment for truck loading from a computer console.
- Assure proper cement types are unloaded from railcars into designated silos without contamination.
- Operate power sweeper, forklift truck, and front-end loader.
- Use credit approval lists and cement inventory reports to determine loading capabilities.
- Maintain shipping logs and prepare bills of lading.
- Handle inquiries and orders for customers and sales personnel.
- Perform general cleanup duties around the loading area.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Willingness to learn; training will be provided.
- Minimum of 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience preferred in a similar or related industrial facility.
- Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service skills on a regular basis.
- Ability to operate the loading systems used in loading trucks and railcars.
- Ability to operate sweeper and general hand tools.
- Ability to calculate loads going into trucks using general math calculations.
- Proficient at database input and computer usage.
- Technically oriented in troubleshooting and repairing basic mechanical, pneumatic, and minor electrical malfunctions.
- Knowledge of terminal operation policies and procedures.
- Skill in using terminal equipment and computerized systems.
- Ability to lift heavy materials weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to operate all terminal equipment including railcar vibrators and silos.
- Working knowledge of welding, cutting torch basics, and mechanics.
- Ability to operate mobile equipment such as a forklift, trucks, and bobcat-related equipment.
