Full-time - Entry Level
Chicago, IL
Educational Services

About the position

Located in the vibrant cultural capital of Chicago, the DePaul University School of Music seeks an experienced soprano, mezzo, or contralto to join our faculty in applied classical voice at an exciting period of strategic expansion. This is a full-time term faculty (i.e., benefitted, non-tenure-eligible) position with a focus on teaching. Initial contracts are for one year; multi-year contracts are possible thereafter. As the School is reinvesting in the voice program as part of our Strategic Plan beginning in 2025, we seek a compelling performer with a fluid and healthy technique, expertise in opera and art song, demonstrated breadth of repertoire and, at a minimum, national recognition as a vocalist.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching applied voice primarily to graduate and undergraduate students in performance.
  • Teaching undergraduate majors in Music Education, Performing Arts Management, Sound Recording Technology, and Bachelor of Arts in Music programs.
  • Recruiting high-quality voice students for BM, MM, and post-master's Certificate programs.
  • Conducting auditions and juries.
  • Participating in some department service.

Requirements

  • Experience as a soprano, mezzo, or contralto with national recognition as a vocalist.
  • Expertise in opera and art song.
  • Demonstrated breadth of repertoire.
  • Ability to teach applied voice effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working and teaching in a diverse learning environment.
  • External artistic and industry connections.
