The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) program provides curricular and co-curricular experiences for students to become leaders in therapeutic recreation and related professions. Graduates meet requirements to apply for certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Certification and licensure by the state of North Carolina. The TR program is situated within the School of Health Sciences at WSSU. The university is part of the University of North Carolina system. The TR program seeks an innovative, creative individual to support WSSU's strategic plan, Unleash the Genius, the School of Health Science's mission, and departmental plans to increase student success in all phases of their education. This individual will contribute to the interprofessional education approach, the unique values of the TR program, and curricular development. Involvement in the profession as an advocate, both within and outside the university, is expected. It is anticipated that the individual will work collaboratively with colleagues and community stakeholders to foster success for the students. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence for students in the undergraduate Therapeutic Recreation degree program. The individual will be able to use various technologies and pedagogical techniques to engage students in the learning process. We seek individuals who continue to grow through professional development in the practice of TR and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Individuals must show an interest in connecting students to undergraduate research through mentoring and linking scholarship in the classes. Candidates will have the ability to participate in interdisciplinary approaches to teaching, scholarship, and community engagement.
