About the position
The position involves managing a team of 5-6 localization experts to support the Math and Science offerings in Telugu for Khan Academy. The role includes reviewing and editing existing content, creating new localized content, and ensuring quality metrics are met. The candidate will interact with state teachers to gather feedback and adapt content accordingly. This is a full-time, 12-month contract position that allows for remote work, with some travel required approximately 2-3 times a quarter.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing and editing KA Math Telugu content and/or creating and localizing new content (videos & text) as needed.
- Collecting on-ground feedback on content by interacting with state teachers and incorporating the feedback into the content.
- Managing a team of 5-6 localization experts.
- Going through Telugu Math textbooks to highlight any modifications needed before localization.
- Reading through original material, reviewing it, and rewriting it in the target language if needed.
- Using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
- Researching relevant phraseology to find the correct translation.
- Proofreading and editing final translated versions based on quality parameters.
- Retaining and developing knowledge on specialist areas of translation.
- Adapting Khan Academy's Style Guide for Telugu.
- Developing and continuously updating a glossary for specific terminologies used in Khan Academy's localization process.
Requirements
- Loves Math and is comfortable with the subject up to class XII level.
- Fluent in Telugu language (speaking and writing).
- Native Telugu speaker.
- Ability to manage a team of 5-6 people.
- Keen eye for detail and ability to conduct quality audits of localized content.
Nice-to-haves
- Having studied and/or taught in a Telugu medium school.
- Experience in online teaching, video creation/localization.
- Being tech-savvy and tech-curious.
- Proficiency in understanding the English language to recreate videos.
- Knowledge of various Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools and video making and editing software.
