About the position

The Technical Project Manager for Global Merchant Services Technology at American Express is responsible for leading cross-functional project and program teams to deliver technology solutions that meet customer expectations. This role emphasizes collaboration with various stakeholders, including Product Owners, Engineers, and Architects, to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and effectively. The position requires a strong understanding of Agile practices and the ability to drive processes that support successful business outcomes while fostering an inclusive and innovative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and lead technical conversations related to architectural approach and system design.
  • Drive team/release level processes demonstrating servant leadership coupled with domain knowledge and technical acumen.
  • Facilitate Sprint planning meetings and other Scrum ceremonies with the delivery team.
  • Ensure dependency alignment across teams.
  • Execute the Program Increment (PI) objectives to support the strategy, vision, and roadmap.
  • Ensure value is achieved by the team on behalf of end users.
  • Work in partnership with Product Owners to build and prioritize the product backlog.
  • Support product owners by ensuring backlog refinement and readiness.
  • Collaborate with other Technical Project Managers to coordinate cross-team dependencies.
  • Create metrics-driven insights into the delivery and execution of the team using relevant team level metrics.
  • Track iteration progress, actively participate in design discussions, issue resolution, and remove obstacles to ensure sprint commitments are met.
  • Support and encourage innovation through continuous exploration.
  • Drive Agile team objectives.
  • Provide visibility into gaps, issues, risks, and opportunities across Agile teams.
  • Measure user story execution.
  • Coach teams to embrace the Technology SDLC process, Agile values, principles, and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in technology related subject area or equivalent experience required.
  • 7-10 years of experience with a consistent track record of growing responsibility.
  • Experience leading Agile, Scrum, or other rapid application development teams to deliver technology solutions that meet customer expectations for timeliness and quality.
  • Experience in clarifying objectives, dealing with ambiguity/under-defined problems, advocating for simplification, and influencing.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; Ability to efficiently communicate across product, technology, and business partners.
  • Ability to deliver complex software iteratively and with quality.
  • Experience using Rally delivery management platform is required.
  • Experience with SDLC Methodologies & Practice.
  • Deep understanding of Agile at Scale or iterative development processes, including quality and testing standard practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • PMI Certification is a plus.
  • Agile Certifications or demonstrated years of experience.
