About The Position

It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing! We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business. POSITION SUMMARY: The Technical Product Owner is a hands-on, detail-oriented role that bridges the gap between business stakeholders and engineering teams within VIRA Insight’s Product, Technology, Analytics (PTA) organization. Reporting to the Director of Product Management, this role is responsible for translating product strategy into sprint-ready work, owning the day-to-day backlog, writing detailed user stories and acceptance criteria, and ensuring development teams have the clarity they need to build the right solutions. The Technical Product Owner works directly with operations, manufacturing, fulfillment, sales, and finance teams to understand workflows and pain points, then partners with engineers, data analysts, and QA to ensure features are built correctly, tested thoroughly, and delivered on time. The position requires someone equally comfortable in a sprint planning session, a warehouse walkthrough, and an ERP configuration review.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to translate business needs into well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications with minimal ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated experience managing product backlogs and participating in agile sprint ceremonies in a fast-paced, multi-team delivery environment.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing, supply chain, fulfillment, or logistics operational workflows and their supporting technology systems.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and enterprise application ecosystems, including CRM, WMS, and TMS.
  • Proficiency with agile project management tools (JIRA, Confluence, or equivalent) and the ability to maintain a disciplined, well-organized backlog.
  • Strong business analysis skills, including process mapping, requirements elicitation, wireframing, and stakeholder facilitation.
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating between business language and engineering requirements.
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear documentation and delivering engaging product demos.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a product owner, business analyst, or technical product management role within a technology-driven organization.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working in or supporting manufacturing, logistics, warehouse, or fulfillment operations.
  • Demonstrated experience working in agile delivery environments with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of writing high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria that result in successful feature delivery with low defect rates.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP configuration, reporting, or enhancement projects.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), or equivalent agile certification.
  • Experience with digital registration systems, customer-facing portals, or partner integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with data analytics concepts, dashboard design, and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
  • Experience collaborating with distributed or offshore teams, including Global Capability Center environments.
  • Knowledge of EDI, barcode scanning, or workflow automation technologies in operational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Backlog Management & Story Writing Own and maintain a well-groomed, prioritized product backlog in JIRA (or equivalent), ensuring all items are clearly defined, properly estimated, and sprint-ready at least one sprint ahead.
  • Write detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria, edge cases, business rules, and technical notes that enable engineers to build with confidence and minimal ambiguity.
  • Break down epics and features into appropriately sized stories and tasks, ensuring each delivers incremental, demonstrable value.
  • Manage story dependencies, sequencing, and prerequisite work across Product, Technology, and Data tracks to prevent delivery bottlenecks.
  • Continuously refine and re-prioritize the backlog based on stakeholder feedback, sprint outcomes, production issues, and evolving business needs.
  • Sprint Execution & Delivery Participate actively in all sprint ceremonies: sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Provide real-time clarification and decision-making during sprints, unblocking engineers quickly by answering questions, validating assumptions, and making scope calls within defined guardrails.
  • Review and accept completed work against acceptance criteria, ensuring delivered features meet functional requirements, quality standards, and business intent before release.
  • Track sprint progress, flag risks and blockers early, and work with the Director of Product Management and engineering leads to resolve delivery issues.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) with business stakeholders, gathering feedback and managing defect resolution before production deployment.
  • Business Analysis & Requirements Discovery Conduct discovery sessions, process mapping exercises, and workflow analysis with business stakeholders across operations, manufacturing, fulfillment, sales, and finance.
  • Document current-state workflows, identify inefficiencies and manual workarounds, and define target-state processes that inform product requirements.
  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and process flow diagrams that communicate proposed solutions clearly to both business users and engineering teams.
  • Validate requirements with stakeholders through prototyping, walkthrough sessions, and iterative feedback to ensure alignment before development begins.
  • Maintain a requirements traceability matrix linking business needs to user stories, test cases, and delivered features for audit and governance purposes.
  • ERP & Enterprise Systems Knowledge Develop and maintain deep working knowledge of VIRA Insight’s enterprise application landscape, including ERP, CRM, WMS, TMS, and related operational systems.
  • Understand ERP-driven workflows for job costing, scheduling, inventory management, manufacturing, finance, and labor reporting, translating these into product requirements and system enhancement stories.
  • Support ERP configuration changes, module enhancements, and integration work by writing clear functional specifications and coordinating testing with business users.
  • Partner with the Lead Data & Analytics Engineer to ensure data requirements, reporting needs, and integration points are properly captured in product specifications.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource on system capabilities and constraints, helping stakeholders understand what is feasible within current platforms versus what requires new development.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Training Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for business stakeholders on active product workstreams, providing regular status updates, demos, and feedback opportunities.
  • Create and maintain product documentation, including feature guides, release notes, FAQs, and training materials that support user adoption and change management.
  • Facilitate training sessions and walkthroughs for new features, ensuring end users understand how to use delivered capabilities effectively.
  • Escalate scope changes, competing priorities, and unresolved stakeholder conflicts to the Director of Product Management with clear context and recommended actions.
  • Support the Director of Product Management in preparing roadmap updates, sprint reports, and executive presentations with accurate data and delivery insights.
  • Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement Define test scenarios and acceptance criteria that ensure comprehensive coverage of business rules, edge cases, and integration points.
  • Partner with QA engineers to develop test plans, review test results, and ensure defects are properly triaged, prioritized, and resolved before release.
  • Monitor post-release production issues, triage incoming bug reports, and coordinate hotfix prioritization with engineering teams.
  • Identify recurring issues, process gaps, and delivery improvement opportunities, contributing to retrospective discussions and process refinements.
  • Track and report on product quality metrics, including defect escape rates, UAT pass rates, and post-release incident counts.
