About the position

The Technical Manager for Semester in the West at Whitman College is responsible for managing the program's electronic information systems, website, and technical support for students and faculty during an intensive 3-month field program. This role involves troubleshooting technology, assisting with presentations, and ensuring safety during travel and outdoor activities. The position requires strong organizational skills and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Program's electronic information systems, including internet and internal server.
  • Manage the program's website, updating it regularly and setting it up for 'rest' mode when not in use.
  • Set up and troubleshoot email accounts as needed.
  • Assist students with information technology, including internet searches and presentation software.
  • Troubleshoot printers and camp equipment.
  • Assist instructors with field software, ideally ArcGIS.
  • Support students and instructors with audio and photo technology for projects.
  • Facilitate the program's presence on social media platforms.
  • Drive program vehicles as needed.
  • Monitor safety concerns on the program with the Director and Field Manager.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as directed by the Program Director.
  • Assist the Field Manager when needed.
  • Update the Tech Manager Manual at the end of the program.
