About the position
The position is responsible for receiving laboratory specimens (blood and other body fluids), ensuring specimen identity and acceptability. The role includes entering orders for laboratory testing into the Lab Information System and entering patient demographic and insurance information into the patient registration system. Additionally, the position prepares specimens for analysis, answers telephone inquiries related to specimen requirements, test availability, and specimen testing status, and provides laboratory results. The individual will also prepare specimens for referral to outside reference laboratories and ensure that all storage requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Receive laboratory specimens and ensure their identity and acceptability.
- Enter orders for laboratory testing into the Lab Information System.
- Enter patient demographic and insurance information into the patient registration system.
- Prepare specimens for analysis and referral to outside laboratories.
- Answer telephone inquiries regarding specimen requirements and test availability.
- Provide laboratory results to relevant parties.
Requirements
- High School Diploma plus additional training or equivalent knowledge required.
- Training of up to 18 months beyond the high school level or equivalent knowledge required.
- Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training.
