About the position

The Fundamentals of Engineering Program (FEP) at West Virginia University invites applications and nominations for a Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor position. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track faculty rank position that is eligible for promotion and merit raises, which involves a level of effort of about 80% assigned to teaching and 20% assigned to departmental service. The teaching function involves classroom teaching of approximately 8 sections of Fundamental Engineering courses per academic year. The service element of the position involves serving on faculty committees, serving as liaison to other WVU units, and planning and participating in student-related retention, recruitment, and outreach activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses to freshman and sophomore level students
  • Coordinating courses and class projects
  • Coordinating out of class events and student activities
  • Serving as a liaison between industry professionals and FEP
  • Assisting with and leading continual curriculum assessment and development
  • Supporting retention and student success activities in and outside of the classroom
  • Providing support for all regularly scheduled FEP events and activities
  • Assisting and tutoring students
  • Mentoring freshman and sophomore students who have not declared a discipline major
  • Representing the FEP and the College to prospective students and families, visitors, and other interested parties from within and outside of WVU
  • Engaging in and supporting limited engineering education research focused on issues of student transition, academic success, diversity and inclusivity, and retention

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Ph.D. or Ed.D.
  • B.S. and/or M.S. in engineering or a closely-related STEM field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching at a senior high school level or above at the time of the appointment
  • Demonstrated ability to provide engineering students a nurturing, stimulating, and exciting learning environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Sustained record of minimum five years of outstanding teaching and service for the rank of Teaching Associate Professor
