About the position

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Studies/History/Government Teacher to join the faculty at Dayton Business Technology High School. The successful candidate will engage students in the study of history, government, economics, and social studies, fostering a deep understanding of societal structures, civic responsibilities, and historical contexts. This role emphasizes promoting critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and global awareness in a dynamic and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with state and school curriculum standards for Social Studies, History, and Government.
  • Teach a range of courses, including U.S. History, World History, American Government, and other social studies electives.
  • Utilize diverse instructional methods, including lectures, discussions, projects, and technology integration, to meet the varied learning needs of students.
  • Encourage active student participation and foster a respectful, inclusive classroom environment where diverse viewpoints are appreciated.
  • Develop students' critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills by engaging them in discussions, debates, and projects.
  • Assess and document students' academic progress and provide timely feedback, using assessments that are formative and summative.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and staff to create interdisciplinary connections, support school-wide initiatives, and develop cohesive learning objectives.
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities to stay current in best practices for teaching history, government, and social studies.
  • Maintain consistent communication with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress, classroom expectations, and individual student needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in history, Social Studies, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Social Studies/History/Government (specific to state requirements).
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of historical content, government structures, and teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create an engaging, interactive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Strong commitment to student success and continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching at the high school level.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and digital tools for enhancing instruction.
  • Knowledge of state standards and assessment requirements.
