About The Position

Certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing who works with students with hearing loss across our continuum either in home districts or at our center-based location. The teacher will provide direct services per the IEP process to those students who have identified hearing loss; collaborate with members of the educational team, and promote interest in and an understanding of the implications of a hearing loss.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Professional Educator License
  • Ability to communicate using Total Communication
  • A valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel within the HILIA (Heart of Illinois Low Incidence Association) member districts in a timely fashion.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years' experience as a Teacher of the Deaf
  • Experience managing an itinerant caseload
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of educational professionals inclusive of local school districts, parents, Laboratory school staff, and ISU staff and students
  • Experience using, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment (CIs, BAHAs, FM Systems, and hearing aids)
  • Experience with diagnostic assessments and implementation of services based upon the data collected
  • Experience with training students and teachers in the use and care of amplification systems
  • Good organization and communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members
