About The Position
Liberty POST is currently seeking a Teacher of the Deaf to work with children ages birth to five. The Teacher of the Deaf will provide academic, social, and developmental support for individual students in various settings including home, daycare, preschool, telehealth, and other early childhood programs. Liberty POST has been providing high-quality, individualized services since 1994, backed by Liberty Resources Inc. and is part of a large social services circle. Originally a speech-language practice in Syracuse, NY, POST has expanded to offer services across New York State and Indiana, employing over 500 professionals. They focus on a child's natural learning environment, a family's unique strengths and needs, and the diverse populations they serve, utilizing a collaborative team approach for evaluation, direct therapy, and family education through child-directed play.
Requirements
- NYS Teacher of the Deaf certificate required
Nice To Haves
- Birth- 2nd grade students with disabilities certification preferred
- Prior early childhood intervention experience preferred
- Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide educational assessments for deaf or hard of hearing students.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons for children with hearing loss utilizing the family's choice of communication modality (e.g. oral language, sign language, etc.).
- Lead other team members of the multidisciplinary team in developing and implementing goals for each child's IFSP or IEP goals.
- Provide instructional support services to deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
- Provide training to classroom teachers and other building staff in the management of the deaf/hard of hearing student.
- Monitor student's use of educational amplification.
- Maintain communication with administration, teachers and parents regarding the student's educational program.
- Complete Individual Educational Plans and Family Service Plans.
- Maintain updated records on individual students.
- Perform other professionally related duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
