About the position

The Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments is responsible for facilitating the teaching and learning process within a positive learning environment. The goal is to help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for them to become responsible, contributing adults in a democratic society.

Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Enhance the academic growth of students through effective teaching practices.
  • Guide the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives.
  • Employ appropriate instructional methods and resources to meet state objectives.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Diagnose learning disabilities of students and seek assistance from district specialists.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and parents regarding student achievement.
  • Accept responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for learning.
  • Implement the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals and methods.
  • Maintain order in the classroom through reasonable rules and regulations.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Take precautions to protect students and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules and regulations.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Engage in professional growth through workshops and advanced coursework.
  • Be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside instructional hours.
  • Attend work regularly and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Student teaching experience or alternatives as specified by State rules.
  • As required by the State of Texas.
