About the position

The English Learner (EL) Teacher at Quail Hollow Middle School is responsible for leading the instructional process for English Learners by implementing the school-wide Language Instruction Educational Plan (LIEP). This role involves developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with other educators, and providing leadership in curriculum design to meet educational goals for EL students. The EL Teacher is expected to enhance academic integrated content/language instruction and support the professional development of teachers in the school.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain school-based LIEP instructional schedule/service delivery for ELs.
  • Work in partnership with principal(s) and classroom teachers to incorporate learner objectives compatible with the subject and diverse learning needs of ELs.
  • Participate on the school MTSS team to ensure appropriate instructional decisions for ELs.
  • Recommend instructional strategies and accommodations for students and classroom teachers.
  • Support scheduling conferences between classroom teachers, parents, and parent liaisons as needed.
  • Help staff understand EL policy and procedures through training.
  • Facilitate communications between EL students' schools and homes to ensure parent engagement.
  • Maintain a current North Carolina Professional Educator's License in the appropriate areas.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Research innovative EL programs and evidence-based strategies for ELs.
  • Utilize data to improve programming.
  • Foster strong school-home relations for parents of students in EL classrooms.
  • Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Participate in school management and share responsibility for the total school program.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development as offered.
  • Participate in personal professional growth activities.
  • Use techniques that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students.
  • Coordinate and lead class field trips as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in education with appropriate subject area.
  • Must have ESL certification or credentials to attain NC certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialization in specific subject area at a Master's level.
