Requirements

  • Applicants may qualify through one of the following routes: Extensive industry experience in health science fields or related fields may be considered in place of a teaching certificate, as College Station ISD is a District of Innovation and can issue local certification based on relevant work experience.
  • Hold current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner or health professional.
  • Two years of full-time wage-earning work experience as a health professions practitioner or health care professional with hands-on patient care experience in a field that is nationally recognized by an accrediting agency.
  • The required work experience must be approved by a certification officer of an approved educator preparation program.
  • Eligible military experience may be used in lieu of civilian licensure and wage-earning experience OR Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in the following area: Current teacher certification in Health Science (6-12)
  • CSISD Program of Study: Level 1: Principles of Health Science Level 2: Medical Terminology Level 3: Health Science Theory (with and without clinical) and Anatomy & Physiology Level 4: Practicum in Health Science CCMA Pharmacy Tech EMT

Responsibilities

  • Teach Health Science classes grades 9-12.
  • Prepare and guide students in securing internship positions
  • Coordinate projects and programs with community health care providers/agencies and educational institutions
  • Coordinate student organization activities (HOSA and/or SkillsUSA)
  • Collaborate with peers in the CTE department and other high school departments
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's CTE curriculum and demonstrate written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and abilities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and equipment for both classroom and shop instruction.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction based on results.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify instruction for students with accommodations as outlined in IEPs.
  • Work with colleagues to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods that align with district and industry standards.
  • Supervise student practice in the welding shop and ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate safety and maintenance logs, equipment inventories, and student training records.
  • Encourage student professionalism, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of College Station ISD.
  • Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, tools, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials, tools, and supplies for the welding program.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in staff development to enhance job-related skills and maintain industry safety and certification standards.
  • Stay informed about current trends, technologies, and best practices in welding and manufacturing education.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
