About the position

The Teacher Assistant II - Active Learning Classroom (ALC) position is designed to support students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom environment. The role involves assisting in the implementation of various classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. The assistant will work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher, helping to meet the physical and instructional needs of the students.

Responsibilities

  • Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Assist the teacher in classroom instructional activities.
  • Assist in administration of teacher made tests.
  • Check, mark, and correct student's work according to specific teacher instruction.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Assist with supervision of students during field trips and other special activities, lunch, recess, restroom breaks, and bus related times.
  • Work with special education students in the general education classroom as required by IEP's.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their records at all times.
  • Maintain emotional control and model effective coping skills.
  • Attend training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs.
  • Help manage behavior of students, including intervening in crisis situations.
  • Assist teacher with implementation of behavior management systems.
  • Recognize differences in each student's special needs and adapt methods accordingly.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Educational Aide certificate.
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • At least one year of successful experience as a teacher assistant, substitute teacher, or other comparable work experience preferred.

Benefits

  • Pay Grade IS02, $16.46 - $19.51 hourly rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
