About the position
The Teacher Assistant II - Active Learning Classroom (ALC) position is designed to support students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom environment. The role involves assisting in the implementation of various classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. The assistant will work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher, helping to meet the physical and instructional needs of the students.
Responsibilities
- Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Assist the teacher in classroom instructional activities.
- Assist in administration of teacher made tests.
- Check, mark, and correct student's work according to specific teacher instruction.
- Perform clerical duties as needed.
- Assist with supervision of students during field trips and other special activities, lunch, recess, restroom breaks, and bus related times.
- Work with special education students in the general education classroom as required by IEP's.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their records at all times.
- Maintain emotional control and model effective coping skills.
- Attend training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
- Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs.
- Help manage behavior of students, including intervening in crisis situations.
- Assist teacher with implementation of behavior management systems.
- Recognize differences in each student's special needs and adapt methods accordingly.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day.
Requirements
- High School diploma.
- Educational Aide certificate.
- Ability to work with children with disabilities.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of general office equipment.
- At least one year of successful experience as a teacher assistant, substitute teacher, or other comparable work experience preferred.

- Pay Grade IS02, $16.46 - $19.51 hourly rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
