About the position

The Teacher (3rd-4th ELA) position at Chicago Public Schools involves co-teaching and providing instructional support to students in the 3rd and 4th grades. The role focuses on fostering a positive learning environment, implementing effective teaching strategies, and ensuring the academic progress and discipline of students under the supervision of the school principal.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for instructional planning and providing written lesson plans.
  • Establish positive learning expectations and evaluate pupils' progress.
  • Implement instructional methods and apply contemporary principles of learning theory.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupils' achievements and attendance.
  • Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding academic progress and conduct.
  • Participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings.
  • Coordinate and attend class field trips and extracurricular activities.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavior management techniques.
  • Familiarity with contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
