The Tax Manager will manage Tax Department staff and processes within Dawn required for compliance with applicable U.S. federal and state tax laws at national, regional, and local levels. This role supports the Tax Director in implementing identified tax strategies and reducing tax expenses as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, trains, and develops Tax Department staff performing the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns, supporting schedules, and documentation.
  • Preparation of federal, state, and local income tax estimated payments and tax return extensions.
  • Preparation of documents computing U.S. income tax provision and audited financial tax footnote disclosures.
  • Preparation of personal property tax returns and processing of real and personal property tax payments.
  • Preparation of annual reports, business licenses, government surveys, and miscellaneous tax returns.
  • Reconciliations of various tax accounts within the general ledger.
  • Performs and reviews tax research.
  • Identifies tax risks, tax savings, and tax process improvements.
  • Teams with various departments within Dawn and external tax consultants to implement identified tax strategies, reduce tax expenses, and improve tax compliance processes.
  • Primary contact for federal, state, and local audits of all tax types.
  • Advises Dawn management on relevant tax issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Demonstrates the 'Dawn Values' of Team Dawn and supports the Circle of Excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • A minimum of 6 - 8 years of multi-state tax experience with direct experience in public accounting or a Tax Department in industry.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and organization skills.
  • Ability to provide strong attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Good multi-tasking ability to work within required time frames or due dates.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and develop tax staff effectively, reviewing work performed and providing necessary guidance and coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of tax and accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficiency with internet tax research services, income tax software, and property tax software.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and knowledge of SAP and SharePoint.
  • Positive attitude and strong teaming skills, both as a team leader and as a team member.

Nice-to-haves
