About the position

The Tax Manager is responsible for helping WOW! ensure compliance in all aspects of transaction tax liabilities by filing accurate and timely tax returns and other reports across the states WOW! operates pursuant to federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Review Tax Analyst preparation of transaction tax returns (e.g., sales and use, business and occupation, gross receipts, telecommunications) and remittances for monthly, quarterly and annual filings
  • Review Tax Analyst preparation of monthly TRS and E911 fees
  • Review account reconciliations of transaction tax, prepare account reconciliations of property tax, unclaimed property, income tax, and Tax Dept. specific expense account general ledger accounts
  • Establish and maintain Business License Tax Return filing and tracking process
  • Develop and maintain tax calendars to ensure that commitments are met
  • Analysis of monthly activity and vendors for consumers use tax reporting
  • Address internal questions on how to categorize invoices for use tax reporting
  • Review daily analysis performed by Tax Analyst and Senior Tax Analyst on purchase orders to ensure proper categorization for tax purposes
  • Analysis of monthly revenue and write off activity to trend corresponding tax remittance changes
  • Process billing system change requests including reviewing Vertex rate updates, submitting billing system tax rate changes, building new tax configuration for system changes or new products
  • Maintaining tax tables used for use tax calculation in NetSuite
  • Training and support department processes as needed for Tax Analyst and Sr. Tax Analyst
  • Review all month end journal entries and files used for monthly tax return processing
  • Assist with customer tax exemption certificate review and approvals
  • Assist with the processing and mailing all estimated tax payments, extensions, income tax returns
  • Prepare periodic sales tax refund claims
  • Provide support for state/local audits by performing analytics on data and researching positions
  • Responsible for the follow-up and resolution of tax notices and correspondence from federal, state and local tax authorities
  • Responsible for Unclaimed Property information gathering and process documentation
  • Assist with processing/mailing of Unclaimed Property returns/payments and due diligence payments
  • Assist with preparation of annual property tax budget and prior year true ups
  • Contribute to special projects as necessary
  • Development and implementation of process improvements
  • Build and maintain relationships with other key departments including accounting, legal, internal audit, human resources, and the regional offices
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related Business degree
  • 5 years relevant experience with at least 2 years in a similar role overseeing and preparing a large volume of transaction tax returns or similar compliance
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, high energy work environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel
  • Able to build strong working relationships both inside and outside the organization
  • Should be a goal oriented, independent self-starter
  • Organized thinker with strong analytical and computer skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, can work independently with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
  • Strong desire to expand tax knowledge and grow skills by taking on increasingly more responsibilities
  • Exposure to property tax and/or unclaimed property beneficial
  • Cable/telecommunications industry experience a plus
  • MS Office software, general ledger software (Great Plains/NetSuite preferred), Internet, e-mail, and database software, as required
