About The Position

The Compliance Division at the Vermont Department of Taxes is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated professional to oversee audits, drive data-driven discoveries, and enhance taxpayer education and voluntary compliance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher AND five (5) years or more of experience at a professional level in tax examination, accounting, auditing, or business administration.
  • OR CPA or RPA AND three (3) years or more of experience at a professional level in tax examination, accounting, auditing, or business administration.
  • OR High school diploma or equivalent AND seven (7) years or more of experience at a professional level in tax examination, accounting, auditing or business administration.
  • OR Four (4) years or more of experience as a Tax Field Auditor IV, Tax Examiner V, or higher.
  • Candidates must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, public or business administration.
  • Two years or more of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage audit staff, ensuring effective administration of audit programs.
  • Develop and monitor staff performance, workload, and accomplishments.
  • Optimize daily workflow and adjust schedules to meet program deadlines.
  • Prepare insightful reports on audit outcomes and activities.
  • Address personnel matters, including interviewing, hiring, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Enhance audit quality and develop procedures to improve taxpayer service.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex tax issues and represent the department in hearings.
