About the position

The Systems Technician for Pumps and Controls at the City of Salem is responsible for performing preventative and routine mechanical, electrical, and electronic maintenance and repair work for water treatment, reservoir, and wastewater pump stations throughout the city. This role involves inspecting city facilities, troubleshooting alarms, and collaborating with other technicians to ensure the efficient operation of mechanical systems including pumps, motors, and generators.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect City facilities for deficiencies and repair any problems found.
  • Perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance of equipment.
  • React to and troubleshoot alarms at facilities.
  • Conduct mechanical, electrical, and electronic maintenance and repair work for water treatment and wastewater pump stations.
  • Maintain and repair pumps, motors, generators, and valving systems in water and sewer stations.
  • Overhaul and repair electrical control and electronic instrumentation systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets City standards.
  • Three years of work experience in the maintenance of industrial pumps, motors, and controls.
  • Experience in electrical and electronic work with programmable controllers or distributed control systems.
  • Electrician License, Limited Maintenance (LME) or Plant Journeyman (PJ) license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Oregon Wastewater Collections Level I Certification.
  • Crane Operators License.
  • Oregon Water Distribution or Treatment Level I certification.
