About the position

Embark on a journey where your expertise in systems engineering will help shape the future of aerospace technology. At Collins Aerospace, we're modernizing the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) capability as part of a program to recapitalize with the next-generation capabilities. As our next Systems Engineer II we will provide the training and tools to help grow the skills you will need to become a subject matter expert (SME) in the systems engineering lifecycle. You will learn from the best and brightest in the communications and nuclear deterrence domain working at Collins Aerospace. This position is for Richardson, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Capture, analyze, decompose, and trace System requirements.
  • Design, develop, and model systems and sub-systems.
  • Develop and verify test procedures at the system and sub-system levels.
  • Building complicated models using SysML for activity, state, block diagrams, and use cases.
  • Utilize JIRA to decompose features into user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Support project level work and meet schedule, cost, and performance goals.
  • Identify program technical risks by evaluating requirements and design aspects.
  • Represent aspects of the Systems design at internal and external customer meetings.
  • Support communication between functional discipline groups within the organization.
  • Requires on-site presence in a classified lab space.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of management, program team members, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in systems engineering to include capturing customer requirements, operations concept development, deriving and tracing system and sub-system requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing network architectures using physical and virtual networks with VMWare or other cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle) in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), with knowledge of tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience building models using SysML for activity, state, block diagrams, use cases, etc.
  • Agile experience working as a scrum master, product owner, RTE, or other agile leadership roles.
  • Experience with Project Management, Control Account Management (CAM), and earned value.
  • Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g. SEER products).
  • Experience with processes such as peer review, configuration, and change management.
  • Participating in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Experience with Military concepts of operations or radio performance standards.
