About the position

The Systems Development Manager at Amazon Development Center is responsible for leading a high-impact team focused on the operational performance, customer experience, maintenance, security, and functional parity of Builder Tools in the US Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) regions. This role combines tactical and strategic responsibilities, ensuring that the team develops and prioritizes the right solutions to meet customer needs while driving operational excellence and compliance with policies.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a team of cross-functional engineers, assessing performance and addressing employee concerns.
  • Define the strategic vision for the team and establish a roadmap for engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate operations work with multiple service team managers to support large-scale AWS services and features.
  • Act as a point of escalation for operational events and drive issues to resolution.
  • Audit and improve system metrics, alarms, and architectures to ensure high availability.
  • Champion AWS SE best practices within and between teams.
  • Monitor service trends to identify opportunities for improvements in existing frameworks, tools, and processes.
  • Drive operational priorities to improve efficiencies and deliver results.
  • Make short-term and long-term decisions, defining clear goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional).
  • 5+ years of Software Development or Systems experience, including hands-on development work and object-oriented design.
  • 3+ years of experience in high-scale hiring and talent management across multiple disciplines.
  • Systems engineering experience, including virtualization, hardware design, and operating system tuning.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in networking, network services, and operating systems.
  • Experience leading development life cycle processes, especially in deployment automation and monitoring.
  • Strong program and product management skills.
  • Experience with distributed systems at scale, including AWS platforms and design patterns.
