About The Position

Responsible for directing equipment/supplies and interdepartmental coordination, holding oversight for the sterilization department leadership. Acts as a liaison between staff, physicians, nursing, and administration. Responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and administration of patient care services to achieve fiscal year business plans. Manages financial resources and capital allocation, works to meet established quality and productivity standards, and develops solutions and action plans to address cost/productivity/quality and infection control issues. Manages a variety of reports, analyses, and summaries as requested by the Director. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and performance reviews on direct reports; completes corrective actions as needed. Maintains adequate departmental staffing schedules and prioritizes instrument needs for the OR schedule. Coaches and counsels staff in a timely manner. Completes annual performance appraisals. Works with internal and external customers to provide quality sterile instrumentation for all patients in a timely manner. Ensures quality and infection control indicators are met, ensuring a safe, quality product. Collaborates with OR personnel; Manager, Team Leaders, and other interdepartmental representatives to ensure proper protocols are being adhered to and issues are handled in a timely manner. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Mercyhealth System.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience in progressive leadership.
  • Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician background.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments/principles and Infection Control practices.
  • Has worked with technical equipment and learns quickly.
  • Listens and communicates effectively.
  • Knowledge of basic OR and SPD procedures and techniques, budgeting and finance.
  • Current Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) and/or International Association of Healthcare Central Services Material Management (IAHCSMM).
  • Proficient in Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint and Publisher, and instrument tracking systems.
