About the position

The System Electrical Engineer/Architect at Pico Lab in San Jose will focus on the design and architecture of system-level motherboards for future XR products, including AR glasses and MR headsets. This role involves hands-on electronics development, schematic capture, and collaboration with various engineering teams to create innovative VR solutions for enterprise clients in education and healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Face the challenge of system-level motherboard architecture and design for future XR products, including futuristic AR glasses, advanced MR headsets, and interactive wristbands.
  • Engage early on innovative product concepts and hardware experience in the System Prototyping Team.
  • Capture and draw highly complex schematics for high-speed SoC motherboard (MLB) at system level.
  • Lead end-to-end electronics development, including early architecture requirements, key components selection, SoC selection, sensors selection, electronic architecture, schematic capture, layout review, system bringing up and supporting embedded and software teams.
  • Hands-on electronics development from scratch, full-system schematic capture, complex high-speed PCB designs, Flex designs and board bring-up.
  • Own schematic capture of early AR/VR prototypes mainboards, daughterboards, interface boards, wireless connectivity boards and all flexes.
  • Prototype closely with industrial designers, optical engineers, mechanical engineers, IC engineers and software engineers for optimized outcomes.

Requirements

  • M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years industrial experience in complex schematic capture in consumer electronics development using SoC running Android.
  • Experienced with smartphone or smartwatch motherboard design including SoC, MIPI, PCIe, baseband, camera, sensors, mipi, wifi, bt, et al.
  • Experienced with schematic and board design using Cadence OrCAD or Altium.
  • Experienced with all high-speed mobile SoC, mixed-signal and pure analog boards.
  • Experienced working with all of these technologies: use of oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, or function generators.
  • Experience working with digital signal processing, real-time image processing, display engineering, camera modules, mobile SoC and PMIC, or Battery Management System.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiar with embedded software development, firmware coding, Android BSP.
  • Familiar with high-speed layout.
  • Familiar with RF circuits and layout.
  • Familiar with low-power low-noise analog circuitry.
  • Familiar with complex SoC motherboard schematic capture, for example experienced in Android smartwatch or smartphone schematic capture.
  • Familiar with migrating Android to a customized SoC board. Very familiar with bringing up complex Android SoC systems.
